Today marked the 2000th regular performance, a memorable event that deeply moved me for being there.
I heard that the symphony performed, 'Symphony of a Thousand,' was chosen by fan vote. Mahler, a composer I'm familiar with, was active from the late 19th to the early 20th century.
Mahler's Symphony No. 8 included not only instrumentalists but also singers like sopranos, altos, tenors,
and the New National Theatre Chorus, as well as the NHK Tokyo Children's Choir.
It was a magnificent performance. Even someone not very knowledgeable about classical music, like myself, could feel the energy of those performers directly.
Furthermore, in this performance, my favorite guest concertmaster, Mr. Sunao Goko, also participated in the orchestra,
which was delightful!
After the performance, the applause was endless. The conductor and performers repeatedly came out for curtain calls and went backstage.
Even as we began to stand up and leave the hall, the applause continued.
Probably, it was an unending ovation for the children's choir remaining on the stage, or maybe for their families and associates.
Reluctantly, I left the NHK Hall.
The conductor, musicians, singers, and audience all contribute to the essence of live performances.
It was truly a wonderful time."
