As mid-October arrives, I've reached the final confirmation stage of this year's travel plans. I made sure to book the earliest reservation
with the travel agency.
Now, there was one thing I had kept pending until today. When it comes to traveling from Kauai Island to Hawaii Island,
there's only one flight per day, believe it or not! (Quite surprising, isn't it?)
Given that the airfare was for a non-refundable ticket, I had discussed with the agency about waiting as long as possible before purchasing the ticket, to avoid buying it too early and then potentially not being able to go on the trip.
However, even though I said that, since there's only one flight a day,
I didn't want to risk waiting too long and not being able to secure a ticket.
So, I ended up purchasing the ticket on a date that I felt should be okay. I also learned that the flights only go to "Kona Airport"
on Hawaii Island, with no arrivals or departures at "Hilo Airport."
Furthermore, since the flight duration is just under an hour, I opted for an economy ticket, with a reminder to watch out for weight
restrictions.
They told me, "Keep it under 23 kg. If it's within 23 kg, there's a $25 charge for checked baggage.
If it exceeds 23 kg, they'll add $35 to that, making it a $60 checked baggage fee."
I was quite surprised by the checked baggage fee, which is almost half the cost of the plane ticket.
I decided to invest in a luggage scale to be on the safe side. I only have a carry-on case for stays of over two weeks.
I'll try to find a lightweight case for stays of more than 8 nights since I'm not going to a cold place. As I grow older, I won't be able to carry heavy items, so I'll start looking for senior-friendly, lightweight cases!
It would be nice to have a case like that...
